How does manual handling promote safety?

(1) This Ordinance applies to the manual handling of loads which, due to their characteristics or unfavorable ergonomic conditions, pose a risk to the safety and health of employees, in particular to the lumbar spine.

(2) Manual handling within the meaning of this Ordinance is any transport or support of a load by human force, including lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving a load.

(3) 1The Federal Chancellery, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, the Federal Ministry of Defense or the Federal Ministry of Finance, as far as they are responsible for this, in agreement with the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Unless the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and Homeland is responsible, in agreement with the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and Homeland, stipulate that for certain activities in the federal public service, in particular in the armed forces, the police, the civil and civil protection services, customs or intelligence services, provisions of this Ordinance are not to be applied in whole or in part, insofar as public interests require this, in particular to maintain or restore public security. 2In this case, it must be determined at the same time how the safety and health protection of employees according to this ordinance is guaranteed in another way.
