Change the display of a 3-D chart

Hints:

  • The examples listed here are from Excel, although charts are also available in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. If you use either of these programs, the features are the same, but there may be slight differences as you get to the first few diagrams.

Create a 3D diagram

  1. On the worksheet, select the cells that contain the data you want to use for the chart.

  2. Click the tab Insert on Diagrams if the icon only appears, or click a chart that you want to use.

You can also click the Show All Charts icon in the lower right corner of the Charts section. This will open the Chart dialog box, where you can search for any type of chart. Typically 2D and 3D are displayed in each category. Pick one.

Change the 3D format of chart elements

  4. click on Effects, click on 3D format, and then select one or more of the following options.

      Select in the fields width and height the point size you want to use.

    Note: The availability of these options depends on the selected chart element. Some of the options that appear in this dialog box are not available for all charts.

    The settings in this dialog box work with the selected chart element. Selecting the entire chart will create frames, while selecting a data series will only use the elements of that series.

Change the depth and spacing on a 3-D chart

You can change the chart depth in 3-D charts with axes, the gap depth in 3-D perspective charts, and the gap width in 3-D bar or column charts.

  1. Click the 3-D diagram that you want to change.

  2. Do you click in the menu format on selected data series.

  3. Click the tab Format data series on Row options, and then choose the depth and width options that you want to use.

Change the rotation of a 3-D chart

  3. Activate in the category Axis options under Axis optionscheck box Rows in reverse order .

Use transparency on a 3-D chart

Although transparency can be used in 3-D and 2-D charts, it is especially useful in 3-D charts, where larger data markers can obscure smaller ones.

  1. On a 3-D chart, click the series or data point that you want to make transparent, or on the Format tab, under Current Selection, select a series from the Chart Elements list.
