FAQ about the electronic doctor's ID

In the manual for my mobile card terminal I read that only the so-called G2 doctor ID card can be used for this purpose and not my previous medisign doctor ID card (G0-HBA; predecessor card). Why is that?

The statement from the manual is correct and has the following background:

The medical ID cards, which are now issued by medisign as so-called forerunner HBA or G0 cards, do not support the Card-2-Card procedure in the same way as the telematics infrastructure or health cards use. The cards are therefore incompatible with one another in this regard.

The use of these medical ID cards only makes sense in connection with applications that use the X.509 certificates for qualified signature, authentication or encryption. These include, for example, the electronic doctor's letter, laboratory findings or quarterly billing for KV.

Applications, currently only the insured person's master data management, which are based on the card-2-card procedure and thus use CV certificates (card verifiable certificate), cannot be used with these predecessor cards.

In usage scenarios with so-called “mobile card terminals” it is a matter of reading out the insured person's master data (VSD) from the eGK. Alternatively, the SMC-B, also known as the practice card, can also be used for this purpose. These cards are issued by the KV system. The SMC-B is also available in a so-called ID000 design (similar to a SIM card). You can insert this SMC-B (in SIM card format) permanently into a special slot in your mobile card terminal and activate it with a PIN. This gives you the permanent option of using the mobile card terminal, even without a Generation 2 doctor's ID card. The service providers of the PVS providers should also offer support on these topics.

Medisign has given a commitment that predecessor cards will be exchanged for G2 cards. In this case, please contact medisign directly.

The other three approved providers issue full-fledged, so-called G2 cards.
